Parenting

UNDERSTANDING PARENTING

Parenting is challenging and rewarding at the same time – it is perfectly normal to have doubts about becoming a parent when you were not planning on it. Just because you were not planning on this timing, does not mean that you are not capable of providing a loving home.

PARENTING RESOURCES

  • Education
    • Classes
Some of the most common topics that you will learn about include:

      • Prenatal Education
      • Preparing for the baby’s arrival
      • Nutrition
      • Childproofing your home
      • Financial Budgeting
      • Bonding with your baby
      • Developmental Milestones
  • Counseling
    • Discussing parenting challenges with a counselor may be helpful to you as you navigate becoming a new parent.  Meeting with a counselor allows a parenting professional to get to know you and your family and they can help provide practical tips on how to apply your newly acquired knowledge in your home.
  • Medical Care
  • Material Support
    • Baby clothes, diapers, wipes, and maternity clothes are among some of the material items that your local pregnancy resource center will be able to help out with.

Adoption

UNDERSTANDING ADOPTION

Adoption is a legal, lifelong parenting relationship with a child. The birth mother (and birth father, if he’s available) create an adoption plan. It is important to know that you have options in adoption and are able to customize for an adoption plan that works best for you.

TYPES OF ADOPTION

OPEN

Open communication between you, the adoptive family, and the child. This allows for the possibility of visitation, emails, phone calls, video calls, and other forms of communication. The adoptive family will know who you are and will have your contact information.

SEMI-OPEN

This allows for communication via an adoption agent or lawyer. This means that the adopted parents will not have your contact information, but they will share updates about the child with you through the adoption agent or lawyer.

CLOSED/CONFIDENTIAL

This option means that there will not be any communication between you and the adoptive family. This option is best for those who feel as though it is best to close this chapter in their lives after the adoption is final.
